First, we had greetings from President Na and he introduced guests.
Today, we had a tall tales workshop by TM Ho and had plenty of guests: TM Ho (Kanagawa・Kagayaki・Kooriyama TMC), TM Oo (Yokohama TMC), TM Ma (Tokorozawa TMC), TM Ka (Tokyo Comedy TMC), TM Ta (Odawara TMC), Ms. Na
We had a business session and decided if we would have a meeting on September 30 and December 30. September 30 is the day before the area contest and December 30 is at the end of the year. The meeting of September 30 will be decided next time. The meeting of December 30 will not be conducted.
Today’s TMOM was TM SN. He had to clean outside with his neighbors this morning and he was late a little bit. He said we were in the middle of hot and humid summer and told us to enjoy the summer.
Word of the Day was by SY. Today’s WOD was why (how come) and because (that’s why).
Role introduction was conducted next.
The first speech was “Ant and grasshopper” by TM TM.
She talked about a famous story, “Ant and Grasshopper”. A hardworking ant survived and a lazy grasshopper died. She applied this story for her own working life. When she worked for a foreign capital company, she worked like an ant to have a better position and salary to compete against men. But after Lehman Shock in 2008, her company fired all the temporary staff and the volume of her work increased. She thought that she would get sick if she worked this way. Working hard is a good thing but if she loses her mental health and physical health, she cannot work anymore. Another shock came to her in 2011 which was the Great East Japan Earthquake. By watching the news day by day, she realized that our lives were more important than achieving our working goal. Therefore, after she finished a big project, she changed her job with lower salary and shorter working hours. This is because she wanted to have more private time than higher salary. Many Japanese people commit suicide because of hard work. This is a social problem now. She will not blame for ant’s diligence but life is not only for work. Grasshopper is important because he enjoys his life and entertains others. Currently, she works as a part-time teacher. During semesters, she works like an ant but during her vacation, she becomes a grasshopper. She enjoys times to leave her work, sleeps well and plays for her family, study English, and chat with her friends. These activities give her power to work and survive. She has 60% of ant and 40% of grasshopper. Each person has a good proportion of being an ant and a grasshopper. Please check it and have a well-balanced life.
The second speech was “Dream is alive” by TM TT. He talked about his dream about his profession. When he was a child, he wanted to be a policeman. When he became a high school student, he wanted to be a FBI officer. When he became a university student, he had another dream. He liked a car and drove a car. So, he wanted to work for the car industry. He found a car part company and his dream came true. One day, his friend told me, “I heard you were looking for a car, especially, Mr. Skyline. If you are mad, you should buy skyline GTR or R34. It’s like a racing car.” It was 5 million yen. However, after he worked hard, he could put racing cars in the market. 10 years later, his dream became true. He is now an employee of Nissan. He thinks dream is alive. When we grow up, our dream becomes smaller but if we believe in ourselves, we can make it. So, never give up.
The first evaluation was by TM TM. The audience thinks her topic is nice. There are 4 good points. First, the outline is easy to understand such as introduction, body, and conclusion. Second, the message is so clear. Third, opening is good. Fourth, episodes are explained. Don’t say sorry. It’s o.k. Make more pauses. After one or two sentences, make a pause. She was honored to evaluate her speech and is looking forward to her next speech.
The second evaluation was by TM YS. In his speech, he mentioned about his initial dream and went on to say about his career. He concluded that we should keep having our dream. There are many good points in his speech. First, he chose an attracting topic. The title itself is inviting. His message is clear with supporting reasons and examples. For example, dream is alive. We have to keep our desires from the bottom of heart. So, she can catch his message easily. Second, his speech is well organized. It has clear opening, body, and ending. He had an appropriate transition. In his speech, he used 10 years later and then he talked about his career. He worked for Nissan. He had an appropriate outline to follow. Lastly, his way of delivering speech is excellent, especially, his body language and eye contact. If he makes his speech better, he is to articulate each sound. However, overall, it was a good speech and she is looking forward to his next speech.
TM KM was the general evaluator. TM Miyata’s evaluation was great because she encouraged the speaker with her big smile and her evaluation. If he made a suggestion, he would ask her to use less examples. TM Suzuki did not evaluate a lot but her organization of the evaluation was good. Her improving points were good. Our business session was not organized very much, so we should organize better next time.
TM TA mentioned that people did not use the right tense of the word, choose. He corrected “how many dreams you have” to “how many dreams you had”.
He also mentioned that TMOM SN said “two speakers were eligible for award” but actually “two speakers were eligible for vote”. He also picked up good expressions. TM TM said “Our lives are more important than achieving of working”. It was pretty impressive. Also, TM TM’s “stimulate your dreams” was interesting.
