103rd Southern Beach Toastmasters Club Meeting Report

The meeting was kicked off with the Club President’s greeting. The greeting emitted a vibe of gentle breeze that suited the morning’s bright spring weather.

After the announcement of upcoming events by TM Tsu, the induction ceremony for our latest member, TM Oz, was held. TM Oz works on accounting in the IT industry, and enjoys ballroom dancing and marathon. Welcome to the club, we are excited to have you onboard!

■Toast Masters Orientation

In the first half of the session, senior members conducted an orientation for new members.

The topics were broken down into 6 following parts:

・Training Program (TM Tsu)

・History and Organization Structure (TM Ka)

・Mentor Program (TM Ab)

・Toast Masters Website References (TM Ya)

・Motto and vision of Southern Beach Toast Masters Club (TM Ta)

After a brief break the second half of the session was commenced promptly followed by the Word of the day.

■Word of the day

“新緑”(shin-ryoku) meaning “verdure”.

■Prepared speech #1

TM Nrs gave a speech from Competent Communications Manual #1(Ice Breaker) entitled “心機一転 (Turning a new leaf)”.

He shared his personal experience starting up new Toast Masters club in various places including one in the Kansai region. The message contained the importance of standing your ground, even if it means facing conflict. – The speech gave me courage to speak up for what I believe is right.

■Prepared speech #2

TM Abk gave a speech from Competent Communications Manual #3(Get to the point) entitled “スピーチ前運動 (Pre-speech Warm-up)”.

TM Abk just returned from Pitsburg and brought home some tips for warming up before a speech, which he learned from a University drama instructor. – I can’t wait to try it out on my next speech!

■Table Topics

Topic Master TM Ta’s quetions were themed around souvenirs.

Question #1: What is the best souvenir you have ever received – Answered by TM Tsu.

Question #2: If you were to go Kanazawa, what will you pick as a souvenir for your acquaintances – Answered by TM Ab.

Question #3: If you were to replace Chigasaki’s famous Tako senbei, what would it be – Answered by TM Myt.
